Step 1. Check requirements.

This step reminds you of what you need to have in place in order to run the Wizard.  After running the Format Wizard, you should see the following screen:

To import a Latent GOLD model, you have to save it as a text file from within Latent GOLD.  Clicking the Help button loads a Word file that tells you in detail how to do this.  You must have this text file accessible to your computer  to proceed.

If you have this file in place, click the Next button to go on to the next step.

Problems that can arise

Most of the time, following the instructions will work.  However, circumstances requiring work-arounds occasionally arise .

The text file is too long.  Excel supports a maximum of 65,536 rows.  That sounds like a lot, but if you have had a long session in Latent GOLD in which you have built a number of models, the text file you generate may exceed the limit.  If this happens, follow these steps:

  1. From within the Latent GOLD program, select the best model.  In the example below, this is clearly Model3, the model with the lowest BIC value.

  2. In the left-hand pane, click on Model3 to select it.

  3. From Latent GOLD's main menu, select File | Save Results....  You will see the following dialog box:

  4. At the bottom of the dialog box you see some radio buttons.  Click on Model Views.  The dialog box should look like this:

  5. Click the Save button to save the file.  In doing this, you save just the results for one model.  The Format Wizard will still import the file, but it will leave the Overall Summary worksheet blank.  You can manually cut and paste the information from the overall summary pane into this sheet.
